Caring for the Bluebikes community

The health and safety of the Bluebikes community is our top priority. With recent news around coronavirus (COVID-19), we know you may have questions about how we can all do our part to keep the community healthy. We want to share the actions we’re taking to help protect you — and what you can do to help.

Essential Workers Programs

We are continuing our essential workers program offering free 90-day passes to all employees who work in a restaurant, retail store, grocery store, or pharmacy that is located in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Everett, or Somerville. Find more information here

What Bluebikes is doing

  • Closely monitoring the situation and taking action. We're following updates on COVID-19, including guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health officials. We'll continue to take actions necessary to help protect the community.

  • Helping with prevention. High contact surfaces on bikes (such as handlebars and seatposts) will be disinfected each time they arrive in our depot. High contact surfaces on vans used to transport vehicles (such as steering wheels, seatbelts, center console, and door handles) will also be disinfected at the start of each shift. The 10 busiest stations in our system are being disinfected on a daily basis. In addition, our associates are wearing gloves when handling bikes, and we are recommending that they follow CDC guidance to wear a cloth face covering. We're helping procure face coverings for associates where we can.

  • Offering Flexibility. Bluebikes staff members who are sick are staying home from work. Our workforce has robust sick time policy in order to protect public health.

  • Valet Service Near Hospitals. Valet service will be made available in the Longwood Medical Area M-F from 7am-7pm during the peak ridership season (April-November, look for the valet icon on our Station Map here).
