Thanks to Bluebikes title sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, riders can get outside and experience all the benefits of biking with free rides on October 10th. Here’s what you need to know about the initiative:

Free Rides on World Mental Health Day, Courtesy of Blue Cross

For the third year in a row, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is recognizing World Mental Health Day and supporting health and wellness within the community by sponsoring a Bluebikes system-wide free ride day on Monday, October 10. Metro Boston residents can take advantage of free unlimited, two-hour Adventure Passes (no code necessary) by downloading and opening the Bluebikes App on a mobile device and selecting “Adventure Pass.”

Blue Cross is committed to supporting the mental health of everyone in our communities and calling attention to the profoundly positive impact of exercise, such as biking, on both physical and mental wellbeing. According to The Mayo Clinic, regular exercise, including cycling, can ease stress levels and improve sleep, which is often disrupted by stress, depression, and anxiety. 30 minutes or more of exercise three to five days a week may significantly improve an individual’s mental health and reduce depression and anxiety.

Share a Ride with Friends & Family

To recognize the importance of supporting friends and family on their mental health, Blue Cross is also implementing a “Take a ride, Give a ride” program on World Mental Health Day. Any individual who takes a Bluebikes ride on October 10th will automatically receive code for one free single trip pass that they can send to a friend or family member to utilize through the remainder of 2022.
