Now more than ever, community matters. We sat down with Daniel Garcia one of the members of BrothersOnBikes, to talk about who they are, and why they ride.
BrothersOnBikes is a community of engaged Black cyclists in the Boston area. The group's goal is to collectively connect with other black/brown riders and supporters through cycling in Boston and beyond. B.O.B. Founders include: Elijah Evans, Danny Garcia, Tariq Tillet, Jabari Rezende. Honorable mention to Peter Cheung. We’ve also been fortunate to collaborate with some amazing partner organizations as well including WomenOnWheelsBoston, BikesNotBombs, RideForBlackLivesBoston TrailBlazHers Run Co., and Unnamedruncrew.
After the George Floyd incident, four brothers decided to connect every Sunday (weather permitting) to ride a few miles together in honor of George. This ride is ritualistic and signifies the struggles with being Black in America. It’s not always sweet!
Our minimum ride distance is typically about 10 miles, but we’ve had rides up to 60 miles in length including the BNB Annual Bike-A-Thon. Many of our rides are informal and are simply for the joy of biking. Recently we had about 50+ riders on one of our night rides through the city of Boston that was a collaboration between BrothersOnBikes and WomenOnWheels.
